The Khandoker is a family run business, founded in 1937 by the late Nazir Uddin under the original Bombay Restaurant right here in Manchester.
In the 60’s you may recall The Manzil Restaurant on Stockport Road. Nazir was the pioneer of Indian cuisine in the North West of England. 70 years on, the family are still serving contemporary and authentic Indian and Bangladeshi food.
All our food is halal and we have vegan and gluten free options please ask a member of staff if you require more details.
Over the past 40 years Khandoker has carried out many charitable projects and raised thousands for those in need. We have hosted numerous charity dinners in the aid of Christie’s cancer research, St Ann’s Hospice, North west ambulance etc. With the help of our loyal customers we managed to fund and purchase a rapid response vehicle for northwest ambulance. This vehicle was driven by the late Roy Williams who became a local legend by volunteering to be a paramedic and worked with no salary to help save lives and not put any burden on NHS. We have also worked with GMP Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy to raise thousands of pounds for the charity Retrak who helped build schools in poor communities in Africa.
We have also helped internationally to our home country by supporting the educational system in Bangladesh by funding scholarship programmes in poor remote villages . This enabled many children to achieve outstanding results in their exams and as a result have improved their lives significantly. More recently we funded and opened a hospital in Bangladesh primarily focused on free healthcare for less privileged people many of whom couldn’t normally afford to have operations this has saved hundreds of lives in the process.
During the pandemic we supported the local NHS staff and elderly with free hot meals. We have also campaigned for free school dinners for poor students which was supported by Manchester United star Marcus Rashford. We hope our work can continue with your support for many years to come! May we convey are greatest well wishes for the loyal customers whom without your help and contributions wouldn’t have been to achieve any of this. ❤️
